A family-owned business, 2nd Family Philadelphia began from personal experience in searching for senior home care for our own loved ones.
Mary, lovingly known as “Grams” (Emily’s grandmother), suffered from Alzheimer’s for over six years. We sadly watched our larger-than life “Grams” slip away. She went from a kitchen commander, making hand-made pasta for every holiday, and a passionate Eagles and Phillies fan to someone who didn’t recognize her own daughter. We were so confused and knew little about how to help.
Our family struggled emotionally and strategically in trying to care for her at home as her symptoms worsened over time. We discovered first-hand the huge void between the level of care available and the level of care that we wanted for “Grams”.
That experience became the foundation of 2nd Family Philadelphia. Today, we are committed to closing that gap and offering families the kind of compassionate, professional care we once needed ourselves.

Our Story Founded by Friends With a Shared Core Value: Family and Compassionate Home Senior Care
Friends for over 20 years, we recently discovered each of our grandmothers required in-home care. Eileen, lovingly known as “Minxie” (Sean’s grandmother), suffered from a stroke and needed 24-7 care for over 16 years. We worked tirelessly for years arranging family and caregivers schedules. Dealing with call-outs, complicated medical care, in-home care, and overall scheduling logistics created round the clock work for many family members.
Together we wanted to create a solution and offer the highest quality care that could relieve the burden for families sharing similar experiences. Watching our families’ hard work and dedication to our grandmothers created the foundation for our three-pronged approach to senior home care: highly trained caregivers who are managed by RN Care Coordinators using the latest technology to keep families informed at all times from their mobile device.

2nd Family was wonderful with my mother. First, while she was still at home and just needed a “friendly couple of hours” of company. Then, later, when she was in skilled nursing after a stroke, the 2nd Family team was part of her care plan for some extra interaction when COVID kept my siblings and me from being able to visit her in person. Yes, we has some scheduling issues, but that is part of the health care environment and the fact that care givers have personal issues come up too. But Chris and Emily were truly caring and always responsive. It’s a really tough business to be in and we were lucky to find such a caring team of people!
Their name is in their care. My mother took ill and 2nd Family of Main Line was there when I couldn’t be. Second Family took the time to really understand her case and the care she needed. They paired her with the most amazing caregiver and together they got her back on her feet.
2nd Family- Main Line provided nursing care during my moms time in hospice. The nurse aids were professional, extremely competent and compassionate. I have recommended 2nd Family- Main Line to family and friends.

Chris and Emily efficiently executed the necessary paper work and we had the welcoming assistance of a home health aid in one day. Emily is a gem and so very experienced in the field of geriatrics – she anticipated our every need. I would highly recommend their services when needed for a loved one – they truly live up to their name – and we are grateful to our 2nd family.
2nd Family and their team were there when we needed them most. They help my sisters and I as we transitioned our mom from living completely independently to having assistance. They were able to work with us to find the right care plan for our special situation (our mom is 63 and physically fit but fighting a rare form of aggressive dementia). Their caregivers were patient and understanding. Even during both a pandemic and a crazy winter of snow, Emily and Chris communicated and made us part of our mom’s care giving process. The team even assisted us with the next step of moving our mom into a facility. going above and beyond to give us support during such a difficult time. We will always be grateful for their assistance and cannot say thank you enough.
