2nd Family is a family-owned business born from personal experience.  “When our own loved ones needed care, whether returning home after hospital or rehab stays, or requiring extra support in assisted living, we were overwhelmed by the complexity of options and disappointed by the gaps in quality and compassion. The emotional toll was profound, and we couldn’t help but wonder how many other families were facing the same struggle.”
Motivated by this experience, Shawn made the life-changing decision to leave behind a 25-year career in corporate strategy, operations, and finance to pursue a more personal mission: helping families navigate the senior home care journey with clarity, empathy, and confidence. He founded 2nd Family in the heart of MetroWest Boston to deliver high-quality, transparent, and compassionate home care services to local families, just as he wished for his own.    Shawn brings not only extensive professional expertise but also a deep, personal understanding of what families truly need during challenging times. His goal is to ensure that every family feels seen, heard, and supported.

I can not speak highly enough for 2nd Family MetroWest Boston,from Shawn to all the caregivers he sent. . They were all very professional , skilled and so kind and compassionate..When we needed increase coverage Shawn made it happen. He was amazing to work with and the caregivers that came were wonderful If you are looking to find help for a love one I would highly recommend 2nd Family MetroWest Boston.

Shawn Kelly and every one of the staff we met from 2nd Family MetroWest showed up for us with kindness and professionalism. The caregivers were uniformly respectful and capable. I was looking for a caretaker and companion for my mother who has some cognitive decline and found Shawn and 2nd Family through my work benefits. We were assigned 3 different caretakers, Karen, LaServe (Jean) and Marie, all of whom my mother really enjoys spending time with. They would also accompany my mother to a Long Term Care home to visit my Dad every day, and they would play games with dad and talk and joke with him - he loved the attention they gave him. Shawn, the owner, also came to introduce each caretaker to mom and dad and got to know them. Dad loved the little chirping stuffed bird Shawn brought for him and sharing Fist Bump hello and goodbyes. He took the time to share his personal story, why he has created "2nd Family" and he really listened to understand our family's needs. I have used other companies/caretakers previously, but feel truly blessed to find 2nd Family as none of the others had the heart and caring Shawn has shown which makes all the difference in the world to my family.

My mom was recently diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and we decided to use in home care for her. We talked to a few different places, but have had huge success with 2nd Family Metrowest. Shawn, Kathryn and the rest of the team were amazing to work with. They made the transition smooth for my mom, while also making sure that I was comfortable with everything. Karen, the CA assigned to my mom has been fantastic. She has taken my mom apple picking, to the craft store, and has been a great friend and companion. I feel lucky to have found this as an option.

Beyond the playing fields, Shawn extends his commitment to the next generation through his role on the board of The Redhawk Foundation, a local nonprofit dedicated to expanding youth access to enriching educational, recreational, and cultural opportunities. His involvement reflects a broader belief: that a strong, supportive community begins with giving back.

Now, with 2nd Family, Shawn is channeling that same passion into helping local families navigate one of life’s most important decisions—caring for an aging loved one.
